Depends on what part of town, there are a couple of really good bakeries!

For Danish & Croissants, I'd have to say The French Gourmet, 960 Turquise st, S.D. & the St. Tropez (there's a couple but the one in Encinitas is best).

There's alot of other really great bakeries around that make other types of products that are awesome, mostly Mexican breads though.

enjoy!

K Sandwiches in Kearny Mesa. Goofy-*** looking building inside and out, but the best French pastries and baguettes I have EVER had outside of Quebec (never been to France, sadly). I didn't know anything about the French/Vietnamese culture combo until I moved to Southern California. Amazing Bahn-Mi sandwiches and drinks too! This is one of those places REAL foodies like me go and amaze all my friends from out of town.

Coming from NY I was APPALLED that I had to pay $4+ for a decent baguette or loaf of Italian bread. I lived on sourdough until I found K Sandwiches.

Those places downtown and Bread and Cie in Hillcrest are rip offs and not authentic at all.

I went to Becki's creations some time ago. It was fabulous. If it is still there its a must go. Its downtown.
