What is the cheapest place to stay in San Diego that isn't smelly, bug infested or otherwise nasty?

I need a place for Spring Break that is under $50.00 a night in San Diego. Ideally it would be somewhat near a beach, the TJ border and the airport. It would also not be tainted with human feces, cockroaches, or unidentifiable smells. Just a place to sleep but not a guesome nightmarish one.

There are some low-cost hotels/motels around the airport area where you might find a room for less than $50/night in San Diego. Don't expect much though.

You can find some cheap rooms if you go towards East county (La Mesa, Grossmont area) and don't mind a little drive. There is a new Motel 6 right off of Jackson and I-8 that I believe is about $50/night.

Worst case, grab one of the travel guides at a truck stop or Dennys alone a freeway. There is usually hotel ads for cheap rooms in the San Diego area.

You're asking a lot for $50 per night. Try searching some of the lower priced hotel chains like Motel 6, or Super-8. You can also find discount hotel packages at Travelocity.com

There is a youth hostel in Pacific Beach, but I doubt there would be anything for Spring Break 2006. Maybe 2007?

We're staying in a very cheap, yet nice hotel at the far end of Hotel Circle. Its near everything, literally, in the middle of it all.

I've stayed there many times.
