Considering Australia is an island and has to have everything imported I can definitely see things like gas and food probably being more expensive than California if not the US in general. But having never been there and not knowing the exchange rate it's kind of hard to say.
However like billy said, cost of living is NOT your problem. The problem is that if you're not born there then the only way to immigrate is if you have a job/profession that is in demand and the australian government lets you. So don't go making travel plans just yet.

It depends a little bit on your lifestyle, but in general cost of living will be higher in Australia. Depending on the place and type of dwelling, rent may be comparable in price. Gasoline, going out to eat and drink, and transportation costs will generally be more expensive in Australia. Minimum wage is higher in Australia and there are higher taxes also, both of which make things cost more.

Thinking of moving to Australia is one thing, being allowed to is another.
Before you start worrying about costs etc you need to find out whether or not you would be an acceptable immigrant. You can't just turn up and start living here (or in any other foreign country for that matter) just because you feel like it.

Cost of many things will be higher in QLD, but real estate might be similar.
