Question:
Cal State Long Beach or San Diego State?

I'm from out of state, and I'm trying to decide between two schools to transfer to - Cal State in Long Beach and SDSU. At San Diego State, I'd probably major in ISCOR (International Security - Conflict Resolution) and at CSULB, International Studies.

I love the ISCOR major, but I heard SDSU kinda sucks. Since I'm from out of state, I'd probably dorm. Which school has a better campus / social life, since I am from out of state and won't know anyone if/when I get there.

Other factors ~ 3.3 GPA, taken 62 college credits, in an honors society at my school.

Any info / advice is appreciated.

SDSU!! I just graduated from State in May, and I was from out of state also. I loved every minute of it & San Diego is way better than Long Beach. If you are interested, SDSU also has one of the top International Business programs in the country & it requires a study abroad, which I think is awesome. Av. GPA of incoming freshman was 3.8 last year.

It sounds like you're a smart cookie and a dedicated student. SDSU gets a bad rep because it's notorious as a party school. There are a lot of people there who don't put in the effort and are more interested in the infamous dark side of college life. There was a huge drug bust there last semester also, which cast a giant shadow across the campus. But there are a lot of good students there too and I have known several who have graduated with honors and who didn't get involved in any school scandals. It sounds like you are the latter type to me. I think you'd do fine there.

I don't know anything about Long Beach other than the location, which is something of a sister city to San Diego (similar layout, sites, and demographic I think). I think it's going to come down to what you really want to pursue, you'll make friends at either place and I know from experience that there's a lot to do and see in San Diego (the area around SDSU is known as "the College Area" and is its own microcosm). Long Beach is nice too, and is close to Los Angeles, but I don't know if I'd be willing to deal with the traffic all the time or the lack of actual beaches. Good luck with whatever you decide. ^_^

San Diego State totally does not suck! A LOT of my friends go there and love it and if that's what you want to major in, you should go to SDSU. Plus, you don't have to live on or near campus, just live somewhere cool by the beach and drive 20 minutes to get to class. So worth it!

I'm a freshman at sdsu, so today was my first day. Both of the schools you've pointed out are "party" schools. I know for a fact that if you want to party you'll find your crowd, and if you don't want to party you'll still find you crowd.
