I've been thinking about relocating to Cali for quite sometime because I just grew tired of New York and it's rudeness. I keep hearing people are really laid back and cool out in the west coast so just want to hear what you people think.

i think sd is pretty laid back. true la folks can be rude and i've heard the same about ny but think about it. which of these 3 has the worst traffic? when you're living in a place that's so densely populated of course there's gonna be some agression. there are gonna be rude people everywhere you go. i like sd because there are places you can go to get away from the craziness once in a while.

hmm maybe people here in sd are so laid back because we've got carne asada fries! =)

A lot of New Yorkers move out to California and complain about it and then move to Vegas. Or Florida.

People aren't as blunt in CA as they are in NY but they're still pretty rude. Some people call it fake... it doesn't apply to the entire state, LA and Orange Cty mostly. San Diego can be way artificial too, don't get me wrong, we have the plastic surgeons and people putting on appearances . It also depends where you go. There are areas where people are very unfriendly.

A lot of people aren't from San Diego so it's easy to meet new people. Plus it's a convention city, which helps.

You will find yourself driving differently. How you exited in NY is way different. And you can u-turn and do things you couldn't do in NY.

Car inspections are all about passing the smog...I think you had to have someone check your car, lights, etc. It can get really expensive. Better off just getting a car here and not going through the hassle of transferring plates.

There are laid back cool people upstate and in New England.

Believe it or not, the drivers here are much more obnoxious than CT, NY & NJ. They just won't let you change lanes.

I lived in both, and both places kind of complement each other. The weather is nicer, people tend to be friendlier, but it's also annoying when you're used to people being very effective and quick back East.

The Mexicans are really sweet, and it sucks to drive everywhere when you're used to the Subway & walking in Manhattan.

All in all, it's worth the change, at least for the experience. You can always go back East if this isn't for you.

Oh - LA is a big no no for New Yorkers. Try San Diego, Irvine, Orange County, San Jose, Santa Cruz or San Francisco.

My aunt lives in Cali so I've been there alot and I have also been to New York alot because I go to a summer camp there every year and my grandmother lives there. I have noticed that people in CA are very laid back. And people in New York CAN be quite rude. My grandmother tells me it's because NY is such a busy place that people there have just completly lost their patience. I know I wouldn't like living in New York much. But good luck with relocating!

First of all, if you want rude, visit Philadelphia. They are some of the nastiest people in the world. And they call it the city of brotherly love. Huh!

New York is cool but it is hustle and bustle and I never drive when I visit. The freeways in California are even more murderous. People will actually shoot you before they let you change lanes.

But California has some nice weather - where it isn't terrible smoggy. Coronado is nice. They have the San Diego zoo and Disneyland. The people are very health conscious and kind of yuppy and upscale and beatnick and different. It is a nice change of pace from New York but nowhere is perfect.

California is a big place. But, San Diego is the best city in America with the nicest people. laid back and cool about most things. It is the weather and the lifestyle. By the way, Former New Yorker and New Jersey guy. The first thing you will also notice is that it is MUCH quieter. I think to myself when in NYC or the east coast....what are these people yelling about in Restaurants.

I've never lived on the east coast so I can't say from personal experiance but from what I gather from people who have lived on both coasts, Californian's are more laid back, nicer, and less pretentious than New Yorker's/East Coast people. I hear that the East Coast is more old money, class based, and snobby, the west coast is generally not like that. Some really wealthy areas can have snobby people here, but I think that's the case anywhere you go.

Some people from the east cost talk about how they prefer that "in your face" type of NY attitude b/c they think it makes them more "real" or something; people aren't like that here really.

I think people in CA are generally nice and really laid back, SD I think has some of the friendliest people in the state. I think it's maybe b/c the great weather puts people in good moods a little and most people here are transplants so we're all kind of down to meet new people. Most people from NY/NJ area here in SD, which there are a lot of, are pretty nice and friendly too, maybe CA just attracts the more laid back type NY people or they just chill out when they get here.

I think Californian's are nice, friendly, and laid back overall and we are not like all those stupid stereotypes you see in the media from shows like Laguna Beach, 90210, The OC or whatever lame tv show based on some glorfied and untrue image of CA life. Most of us are normal, hard working americans just looking to live our lives and enjoy the sunny CA lifesyle.

Everyone in California is pretty laid back and easy going about everything...way better than New York. But I guess I'm biased since I live here.

well it depends on what part you live in. i live in LA, and let me tell you, people are VERY RUDE. not only are they selfish but they are rude about it, especially in the wealthier areas of LA. in the lower class areas, the people can be nice but sure arent friendly. in New York City, i also experienced rudeness, but i kind of expected it. however, in upstate new york, the people were very kind and old-fashioned. if youre living in a high energy city, expect rudeness. there are exceptions to every rule, however. i know many nice people out here in LA but most of the people i know have no values or respect. i find that people from San Diego are usually nicer than people in LA. the only relaxed place here in LA is the beach, where you find people from OTHER areas of the world. so basically, i think that from experience, both states have their share of rudeness. hope this helps!

I think Cali settlers are more friendly and carefree due to their prosperous life( well just some of them). Btw you can enjoy the great scenery in here instead of serious about people, but that my opinion
