We are flying into LA on Friday. We have an event in San Diego on a Saturday and Sunday. Then, we are flying out of LA on Monday. We want to spend time in LA on Friday. We don t mind driving back and forth to San Diego on Saturday and Sunday from the hotel. However, we want to be close to the LA airport for the flight back home on Monday morning so we don t have to be up and in traffic so early. What s the best city to stay in that is halfway between the two locations? We don t want to book a hotel in a city that has absolutely nothing to do.

On the coast near Del Mar. Spent a lovely vacation there. Drove down to SDO to have Christmas dinner at the famous Hotel Del Coronado. Then drove up to Disneyland from there on another day. The drives both ways are roughly an hour one way, but on freeway so they are easy drives.

It could take 4-5 hours to get to San Diego from certain areas of Los Angeles on a Saturday late morning/afternoon.

Depending on what time you need to be in SD on Saturday and what you want to do in LA on Friday would dictate, whether you stay in LA or SD on Friday night.

Saturday night you should stay in SD

Sunday night you should stay near the LAX airport.

Laguna Niguel is a charming community. But I don't understand- if you're going to be in LA on Friday, and San Diego on Saturday and Sunday, why does it matter if there are things to do where your hotel is? Anyway, the problem is going to be getting to the airport, as you'll be driving into LA at the same time as all the commuters. If I were you, I'd stay someplace close to San Diego on Friday and Saturday nights, and then change to a hotel near the airport Sunday night. I stayed at a nice Indigo hotel there once. And I once missed a flight because of the traffic.
